The order of the Temple was a religious and military organization of Christian chivalry of the middle ages, whose members were called the Knights Templar. This order created the 22 in January of 1129 a military group known as the poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon. He worked during the 12th and 13th centuries for the protection of pilgrims of Jerusalem due to the fact that they were attacked and robbed of the bandits in the area.

The Templars were organized as a monastic order, following the rules created for them by Bernard of Clairvaux. In each country was appointed to a teacher who runs all command posts. These teachers wore a suit black or brown with Red Cross to distinguish them from the other brothers. The term "Grandmaster" was used to designate the Supreme Head of the order.

The recognition of the Knights Templar was easy having a dress code especially suitable for the agenda. The mantle of the templar referred to the Cistercian monks. The Knights and the nobility brothers wore the white robe which was a symbol of purity and chastity of the body. The Knights were obliged to keep a shaven head, and leave beard and long whiskers. In the dress of the Knights Templar appears red cross which was ceded by the end of 1147, by Pope Eugene III. The Red Cross, also called the pâté cross, has 8 tips that opens its ends towards the four cardinal points, It opens to the world and the universe. The pâté cross, with their 4 equal arms, refers to the 4 evangelists, the four elements and the four seasons.

The order was destroyed by order of Philip IV King of Spain whose greed is well-known historically. Philip came to duty to the Knights Templar much money and therefore invented accusations against the order, thus influencing Clement V, and in addition to settle their debts with the Knights Templar, I try to destroy them for appropriating the treasure they possessed.

The tragic end of the Templars has contributed to generate legends about them. These range from rumors about the association with the Holy Grail, questions about their possible links with Freemasonry.
